I
have written many times about my love of theatre. As far as I know the
first show I ever saw was the original Broadway cast (Alfred Drake as
Curly) in "Oklahoma" in 1944 when I was 8 years old. I have never
stopped going to the theatre and I didn't care if it was professional,
Equity or non-Equity, whether on a Broadway stage or a make shift stage in a storefront. I jokingly say--but it is more true than not--that I went broke following "A Chorus Line" all over the USA!
For
the past 3 years I have been very lucky to be writing reviews for
www.corinescorner.com and www.broadwayshowbiz.com and I eagerly look
forward to each show.
We
just finished the 2012-2013 'season'. Above is the Adrienne Arsht
Performing Arts Center in Miami where I saw "Rock of Ages", "Mary
Poppins", "Les Miserables", "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" and
"Memphis". Also, this past season I saw the following at the Broward
Performing Arts Center in Fort Lauderdale: "Million Dollar Quartet",
"Sister Act", "Agatha Christies's BBC Murders", "Flashdance", "The
Addams Family", "Wicked" and "Warhorse".
During
the 2013-2014 season scheduled between both theatres are: "The Book of
Mormon", "Chicago", "The Wizard of Oz", "Green Day's American Idiot",
"Ghost", "Evita", "We Will Rock You", "Elf", "Once" "Blue Man" and
encores of "Memphis" and "Warhorse".
There
is a magic about the theatre that won't be equalled by any other
medium, even when it is filmed 'live'. Whether it be the house lights
going down and the buzz from the audience or the downbeat from the
leader of the orchestra or the curtain going up and you forget the rest
of the world or all of it. Then there is the mysterious power of actors,
sets, lights, sound not to forget special effects taking place in real
time. It is wondrous!
You
can always go to broadwayshowbiz.com to read my reviews before you read
them anywhere else. I was really grateful for all of you clicking on
the site last week but I have to ask a favor again---I promise I will
not ask another favor this month!--would you go to the web
site--www.broadwayshowbiz.com and just click on one of the ads? Not the
ones on the bottom but the national ads. Have to keep Martin going to
the theatre!!!
For
now I am counting the days until the start of the 2013-2014 season
which will open October 9 in Fort Lauderdale with "Chicago".
