I don't know if this is a 'gay' or 'single' or 'family' problem.
All of you that have written me about husbands, brothers, fathers, father-in-laws, godparents, etc., (Don't any women have open heart surgery???) may not have the same problem I have--they have all had relatives, next of kin. I don't have family--or what most nongays describe as family--nor am I in a 'domestic relationship' which would cover the rules here in Broward County so unless Gino and I or Allen and I move into together and register as domestic partners it looks like I might have a problem!!!
I wonder how hard it will be to convince the doctors--my primary and the one who will be doing the open heart surgery--to allow Gino and Allen all the rights regarding medical knowledge and before, during and after the operation courtesies?
The fact that they are both designated on my Living Will to make life and death decisions plus they are on all papers under call/contact in case of emergency should carry some weight.
Anyone have any experience with this regarding a non-relative? This will certainly be on my list of questions on Wednesday when I go to see my primary doctor!!!
Ummmm--no wonder you all have spouses, partners, etc. or live at home with your family--you know there will be someone there to help you get better, change your bandages, help you recuperate, etc. Looks like when I survive this (or in my next life)I'll have to rethink my living alone---KIDDING!!!!
By the way I do want to thank you all for welcoming Gino to the world of blogging even if it will only be temporarily--who knows we may get him hooked on it!!!
