I think I might be gay! I really enjoyed "Sex and the City" which surprised me and was very disappointed in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" WHICH I was looking forward to seeing.
The biggest negative if Indiana was how boring I found it. The whole middle section had me constantly looking at my watch. Yes, the special effects at the beginning and, especially, at the end are exciting and interesting but the story is all gibberish.
Though there is attempt at humor, where it succeeded in the first 3 films, most of it falls flat here.
The only actor who comes across as first rate is Karen Allen reviving her role as Marion with her smile and 'Let's not Indiana get away with anything' attitude. John Hurt comes in a close second in the acting department though he is 'out of it' during most of the film.
Okay, here we go, but, sorry Harrison Ford is too old for the role of Indiana Jones. In the last film even Sean Connery appeared and acted younger than Harrison does in this film. He wasn't the Indiana Jones I knew and remembered. The fedora did a better job than he did.
I don't know whose idea it was to have Shia LaBeouf come on as a Marlon Brando or James Dean even if the film takes place in the 1950s. He has none of the charm, looks and/or acting ability and comes across as a second rate imitation. Also, and this is important, there is no chemistry between Harrison and LaBeouf leaving a lot of interaction dull.
More disappointing than Harrison and LaBeouf is Cate Blanchett. I never thought I would see her in a one note performance but that is exactly what she gives here. I blame Spielberg more than Blanchett as the director seems to want her to be that way.
I'll spare the other actors by not mentioning their names though there are a couple of pros involved and should have done better--if they just signed up for the paycheck I can understand--even actors have to eat!
Though 25 minutes shorter than Sex in the City, Indiana seems a couple of hours longer.
I sincerely hope they don't make a Chapter 5--I doubt they would sucker in as many film goers as they did this one. They should have left well enough alone and I hope the rumors of continuing the series with LaBeouf taking over for Harrison aren't true.
This film is, and will b,e making many millions here and overseas but will leave many disappointed, including me.
