As I mentioned in my previous blog I will be missing
next Tuesday's exercise class. As much as I enjoy (and need) it
something has come along that I feel I have to give a higher priority.
(See after e-mail.)
I, and Allen, received this e-mail after visiting the first gay senior day care center in the USA:
Dear Martin and Allen,
It was a pleasure to meet you both last week.
I'm glad to hear you're already involved in some of the programs available
to seniors in our community. Â I look forward to seeing you and getting your
input on what other programs and activities you want to see offered in our
community.
One opportunity to share your input is coming up at the GLCC
on Tuesday, Novenber 18th at 10:30am - "Coffee and Converstaion" is a get
together we are holding twice a month for LGBT seniors to come together and
tell the
GLCC Senior Advisory Council what programs and services they'd like
to
see developed for LGBT seniors. Â In addition, this is a chance to
socialize and meet other lGBT seniors in a laid-back, friendly
atmosphere.
There's also some exciting work afoot with the GLCC, the
Senior Advisory Council and SunServe - we are jointly going after funding
for a LGBT Senior Services Coordinator position at the GLCC to really get the
ball rolling as we prepare to move into the new GLCC location. (Someone need a job?)
Again,
great meeting you and I hope to see you on the 18th!

I highlighted the sentence in red--IÂ plan
to suggest a support group for those who have had heart surgery as I
found Mended Hearts not to give me what I want/need plus a gay support
group would be warmer, more welcoming, more hands on and friendlier
(sorry, nongays, but those are the facts.)
I
have been to gay chapters of different support groups (AA, Al-Non,
etc.) and there seems to be more acceptance, acknowledgment and
reaching out in these groups as most gay seniors are alone (not
necessarily lonely) and, in spite what you may read, poorer than their
nongay peers.
Come and join us!!!
Good luck there and enjoy.
