There
is no doubt in my mind that I am a lucky guy starting from the time I
was born towards the end of the depression, being too young for WW2,
being the right age for the sexual revolution, being at the right place
at the right time, not to forget where and how I have lived since I
retired. With all this are the many friends, and partners, I have had
through the years.
What brought this up was my current car situation. I had to give up my Chevrolet
convertible after 23 years because I could no longer afford the
repairs, the rising insurance and gas prices. It wasn't really bad as we
had a public bus line that stopped right along our residence but,
because of economics, that line was route was cut. Since then I have
been able to use Norman's car on Thursdays to do food shopping but he
recently sold it. I, also, had access to Edie's Cadillac but just her kids took over paying the insurance and don't want anyone else driving it.
Of
course everyone knows how grateful I am for Allen's willingness to
drive me anywhere at anytime but even though he says I'm not taking
advantage of him I would like to not have to depend on him all the time.
Without having a car to use on Thursdays to go food shopping I now had
to rely on Allen to take me Wednesdays and/or Fridays.
As
luck would have it Jill called me the other day to tell me that she was
going to South Africa with her sister and if I was willing to take them
to the airport when they leave and pick them up when they come back I
could have the car. I now have a car 24/7 for the next two weeks!
You've got to have friends and I certainly do--lucky me!

I've
always loved theatre--that should fit into some stereotypes of gay
people that people who should know better keep on perpetuating--but due
to my lack of funds, and the price of theatre tickets, I had almost
given up on going to the theatre since 2008 until just recently.
Someone had read my movie and restaurant reviews and contacted me to
write theatre reviews for their web site. So far I have seen 3
shows---"Young Frankenstein", "Rain" and, last night, "Dreamgirls"--getting
2 free tickets for each show that normally would cost 73-103 dollars
per ticket--that's like getting paid for something you love to do--lucky
me!

I
don't know if this fits into the 'luck' category or being born at the
right time category. I don't really think that much of age but every
once in awhile I come across something that reminds me I am not 20
anymore and that happened the other day. I read that Bridgette Bardot was celebrating her 76th birthday! How did that happen? Wasn't it just 'yesterday' that she
scandalized the world in the movie "And God Created Woman"? Wasn't she
responsible for masculine American men going to see a 'foreign film' in
French with written
subtitles on the bottom of the screen?!?!? For you kids I suggest you
'google' her and, though French, see the impact she had on the Hollywood
film industry.
