George's Alibi Restaurant and Bar

(The patio restaurant is on the left under the striped awning)

Some
background; I knew George Kessinger in the 90s when he ran his
successful bar 'George's' on Sunrise Boulevard. In the late 1990s he
moved his business to a little sleepy area attached to Fort Lauderdale called Wilton Manors and due to him, and the growth of the center his
business was in on Wilton Manors Drive, the sleepy town became a booming
mecca for gay people and is now a dynamic city. The Alibi Restaurant
and Bar is a landmark in South Florida and has been a hit since it
opened.

 George

I
don't particularly like eating outside on patios and prefer being
inside where there is air conditioning and you are away from the fumes of
the street but during the day it is very dark inside near the bar areas
and the patio restaurant is laid out in such a way that it combines
the feeling of being inside while actually dining outside. On the
particular day Allen and I ate there the weather was sunny, in the high
70s with a nice breeze. It was also a time most of the country was
snowed in and how could we resist eating outside and telling everyone
huddled around fire places up north?

The
Alibi has a varied menu and also has specials everyday. Allen ordered
the ham and turkey club with French fries ($9.95) but I had no choice
as I had to order 'the champ' hamburger ($10) which had recently won 'the
best burger in Fort Lauderdale'. (I might add there is always a contest
for the best burger going on in South Florida!)

While
the burger, with cheese, caramelized onions and chipolte mayo, was
cooked medium rare as I ordered it, and was tasty, it wouldn't be a
reason for me to go back to the Alibi for another one.

The
combination of the outdoor atmosphere, decent food at a decent price,
good service, not to forget being surrounded by some eye candy, added up
to a pleasant afternoon lunch and the slice of heavy chocolate cake
($5) that Allen and I shared made it that much better.

One
major complaint that I had also happened at the Quarterdeck restaurant
the week before. Folks, I know you love your animals and you can bring
them to outdoor restaurants in South Florida but please don't as their
barking and whining can be very annoying.

All
in all the bill with drinks, tax and tip came to $36 but I had gotten
one of the many deal of the days you can find on the Internet and this
one was paying $15 for $30 worth of food, certainly a good buy.

Just
for the record though George's Alibi is advertised as 'one of the most
popular gay establishments anywhere!', and it is, the establishment, the
owner, the staff are very nongay friendly. LOL

I could talk about all the eye candy there but that's talking about food, too

I love my dogs but I can't imagine taking them to a restaurant with me...this is not a place for dogs. Allen's club sandwich and fries looks delicious and the prices seem very reasonable. I love how you post pictures, it makes reading fun!

It seems you can't go to a restaurant down here without a few
dogs at a table. I didn't think of it but I should have taken a picture of the dogs!!

I love animals more than anything else, but taking them to restaurants is not really necessary...honestly.
