LOOK FOR A FRIGID WEEKEND--HIGH 74 FRIDAY
AFTERNOON LOW 49 AT NIGHT--SATURDAY & SUNDAY HIGHS IN 50S--LOW SATURDAY
NIGHT 34 AND SUNDAY NIGHT 40

By Ken Kaye, Rachel Hatzipanagos
and Sofia Santana, Sun Sentinel

January 6, 2010

South Floridians
are going to have to cool it with the winter pastime of taunting friends and
relatives who live up north — at least for several more days.

Here's why:
It was about as cold in some parts of South Florida early Wednesday as it was in
New York City. In both areas, with the wind chill, it felt like the
mid-20s.

Thursday's forecast calls for sunny skies with afternoon highs
in the mid-60s, with Friday's temperatures reaching the 70s. Come Friday
evening, though, South Florida will see another wave of freezing conditions that
could be even more frigid than Wednesday's.

Readings are expected to drop
into the mid-30s Saturday night and the upper 30s Sunday night, the National
Weather Service in Miami said.

"It looks like
it's going to be at least as cold as what we're currently seeing and possibly
colder," meteorologist Robert Molleda said about the next front.

The forecast was enough for Weston city
officials to announce they were rescheduling a weekend, nighttime movie
presentation at Weston Regional Park. The feature: Ice Age 3.

By Monday
afternoon, temperatures should rebound to near 70, forecasters said.

The
region woke up to some record lows Wednesday. West Palm Beach registered 34
degrees, breaking the previous cold record of 37 degrees for Jan. 6, set in
1967; Miami dipped to 40 degrees, tying the previous record set in
1919.

The unusual cold is likely to blame in at
least one death, that of a homeless man found Monday near Hollywood's Young
Circle, Broward Chief Medical Examiner
Dr. Joshua Perper said Wednesday.
Investigators are trying to identify the man, who was white, 6 feet tall and 128
pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes. He went by the nickname
"Oklahoma."

Perper added that the freezing cold may be a
contributing factor in other deaths, particularly among the elderly, that his
office has not yet learned of.

"If they
are natural deaths, we may not be informed," said Perper, whose office handles mostly
suspicious and unexpected deaths.

Miami-Dade and Palm Beach
counties have not reported any weather-related deaths.

The freezing
temperatures prompted officials in all three counties to open emergency shelters
for the homeless Wednesday night, the fifth night in a row.

Authorities
also are keeping an eye on South Florida's wildlife.

Exotic species of animals, especially fish, can die from a
cold snap, said David Hallac, chief of
biological resources at Everglades National Park.

Manatees,
meanwhile, tend to also be resourceful, according to Gabriella B. Ferraro from
the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The manatees congregate
around the warm water near the Florida Power & Light Co. facility in Riviera
Beach and around Port Everglades.

"We are monitoring the situation,"
Ferraro said. "We are out in boats and making sure there are no cold-related
injuries."

Authorities ask anyone with
information about the homeless man found dead in Hollywood to contact the Broward Medical Examiner's Office at
954-327-6500.

Alleged mistress: Tiger Woods had gay
encounters

By Hal Boedeker, Orlando
Sentinel

Just when you
think you've heard it all about Tiger Woods, another story crops
up.

An alleged Woods mistress, who's trying to
sell a book, says she saw the golfer enjoy gay sex, the Web site RadarOnline.com says in an exclusive
report.

The woman in question is Loredana Jolie Ferriolo, an Italian model who has posed for
Playboy. She recently tried to sell a tell-all book for $1 million, RadarOnline reported. Her rep told the Web
site that she is talking to several publishing companies.

Ferriolo will
explain her affair with the golfer but also "his healthy appetite for arranged
sex, threesomes, girls next door, girl-girl, and an answer to all the rumors
surrounding Woods' sexuality," the Web site said.

The Web site said Ferriolo had been seen at a Florida country
club taking golf lessons.

report here.
