Duplicity---a Movie Review

First, and foremost, though I love Julia Roberts I
was very surprised and happy to see Kathleen Chalfant in a major role in a major movie!!
Some of you may recognize her from various appearances in the Law & Order
series, a short lived series with Simon of this year's "The Mentalist" and a few
minor movie roles. She is mostly known for her star turn in the play "Wit" where
she was absolutely brilliant and her appearance(s) in "Angels In America". She
has a major presence in Duplicity though it is a role she could do in her sleep.
This woman needs more screen roles.

Kathleen Chalfant

Okay, back to the Pretty Woman who is all grown up
but still has the sass, the hair and THAT SMILE that lights up the screen and
makes her, deservedly, one of the
highest paying actresses in Hollywood. She has acquired a maturity and a lushness that marriage and
being a mother brings certain women. It is just fun and delightful to sit back
and watch her on screen.

Clive Owen is a good match for Roberts. They, obviously, enjoy acting
together and bring much needed chemistry to their roles and the film. It doesn't
hurt that he looks born to wear a suit--or not! :O)

Now for the movie Duplicity. I'll be the first to
admit that I lost the thread of all the intrigue and had to have the ending
explained to me and I don't feel 'dumb' about that. The ending was so unexpected
I wasn't ready for it and will have to see it again to see if it backs the eventual ending.

There are many genres at work in this film from being a romantic comedy to
being a thriller, mystery, a caper, a big business espionage plot, fighting
dirty, all played by first rate actors in major and supporting roles.

The major factor in whether you will like Duplicity depends upon Roberts and
Owen and their chemistry and they come through on that score easily.

Do your self a favor--go see Duplicity and become
acquainted with Kathleen Chalfant who plays the role of Pam Frales.
