Tuesday is $5 day at most of the theatres in Fort Lauderdale and when in the summertime the 'feel like' temperatures are over 100 a cool movie house is a good answer.
Allen got his $5 worth--he slept through at least 85 of the 95 minutes it took the film to unspool. Unfortunately I am unable to sleep (or walk out) during a bad movie!
Unlike Pixar this animated film, directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud, written by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, throws everything into the pot plus a few more things and winds up with nothing. There are 2 villians, one being Gru, voiced by Steve Carell, who just doesn't have it and the other, Vector, voiced by Jason Segel, who is smart and under handed. They add Julie Andrew's voice as Gru's mother and then to add to the sweetness, three, cute, adorable orphan girls who also have a school ballet scene--awwwww.
Of course we have the merchandising 'minions', little yellow things squeaking, squealing and being indecipherable for 95 minutes.
The
plot has something to do with Gru wanting to steal a weapon from Vector
that will shrink the moon so the former could steal it but I have
already forgotten why! The orphans, who sell cookies, are a way for Dru
to get into Vector's place so he winds up adopting the girls.
The bottom line? Even if they offer you $5 don't waste 95 minutes of your life no matter how high the temperature is!!
