FULL DISCLOSURE; I may have seen "The Office"
and/or "30 Rock" once or twice but was not impressed with either. I am
not a fan of either Tina Fey and/or Steve Carell though I liked her
imitation of Sarah Palin and
I thought he was excellent in "The Forty Year Old Virgin" and his
'hair' scene will be a classic film clip.
I went into this
film expecting a smile or two but was surprised having a few laugh out
loud moments and quite a few smiles, not because of the plot or the
script, neither original, but due to the performers.
For 5 minutes James Franco and Mila Kunis completely steal the picture
and bring the picture to life when it really needs it. Mark Wahlberg plays it straight sort of
riffing off his old underwear days plus speaking Hebrew. Both Tina Fey
and Steve Carell's reaction
to his abs supplies a lot of grins.
I don't know why, and I think many people may
feel the same way, but Tina Fey is rightfully thought of aa a comic and yet she is very
pretty which gets lost in her smarts. Carell is a good match for her in
the way he handles a comic line and they make a good screen couple.
"Date
Night" is sort of a 90 minute made for TV movie with good performers,
funnier than expected and pleasant to watch cast.
