Craft Show, Books, Food

It was a rainy day, parking was free (which is a
rarity) and we had a 2-4-1 admission coupon so it would only cost $3 each-- how
could we not go?

There were one or two interesting booths of which,
of course, I didn't take pictures--sorry About that.

As most of you know I am a
big movie fan especially of old films but what most of you might not know is
that I once collected all and any books that dealt with anything 'gay' in films.
A few years ago I made the decision to get rid of 'things' and sold that
collection, among many other things, on ebay. It's been a while since I have bought
any books but to celebrate my one year anniversary of the aorta valve operation
I treated myself and bought two.

One of the all time tear
jerkers that I have seen too many
times to count and when channel surfing, if I come across a showing of
"Imitation Of Life", whether the Lana Turner or Claudette Colbert starrer (though I prefer the former), I will
go no further and watch it until the end.  This book, by Sam Staggs, goes behind the scenes of the Turner
version from the original story through the writing, casting, filming,
promotion, the controversy over its themes and Turner's real life involvement in
a murder and the reception the film received.

The second book, "The View
From Here", by Matthew Hayes, is a series of conversations with Gay and Lesbian
film makers. The 'usual 'suspects' are there,  like, Pedro Almodovar, Kenneth Anger, plus many not as
well known. How to write a book like this and not include John Waters or Harvey
Fierstein is a little beyond me and I
am sort of hoping they, among others, are mentioned but, all in all, I am
looking forward to reading it.

Something you may not
know, and I very seldom talk about, is the fact that I am an excellent
cook--really make, from scratch, a to die for Caesar salad and shrimp scampi,
but that's another blog. I have
published  2 cookbooks and many original recipes in magazines and newspapers
when I was with Weight Watchers and Our Weigh.

Last week I came across a
recipe, in our local newspaper, for 'Mediterranean Chicken Thighs', cut it out
and put it aside. I decided to make it this evening having all the ingredients
: chicken thighs, olive oil, diced tomatoes,
orange juice, minced garlic and capers. When it was finished I was very
disappointed in the lack of taste!!! As any good chef I improvised, added
various items and spices and must admit, immodestly, I turned what was a bland
(garlic can do just so much LOL) dish
into a really  licking good, sop up the 'gravy' with bread dish!!
