Winter fake out: Front bringing chilly weather back this weekend

Series of fronts that bring cool air is typical of January, forecasters
say

As a wicked ice storm sweeps across the
Northeast today, South Florida could approach record high temperatures,
according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast is for mostly
sunny conditions today with highs from 80 to 84 degrees and winds out of the
south at 10 to 15 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight with a 20 percent chance of
showers; lows from 62 to 67; and south winds 5 to 10 mph.

Friday's
forecast calls for mostly cloudy and breezy conditions with a 50 percent chance
of showers and cooler temperatures with highs only in the mid
70s.

It will be much colder Friday night with lows from 44 to
49.

Another strong shot of cold air should
plunge the mercury into the low to mid 40s on Friday night and Saturday morning. The wind chill might even drop into the mid to upper 30s, particularly in the
western suburbs, said meteorologist Andy Tingler of the National Weather Service
in Miami.

"The farther west you go, the colder it will be," he
said.

Today's forecast: Partly sunny with highs in the low 80s and lows
in the low 60s.

Although the cold wave shouldn't be as potent as the one
last week, it still should make for a chilly weekend, Tingler said. Readings
should start falling on Friday afternoon as the cold front arrives, bringing
arctic air and a 30 percent chance of rain.

High temperatures on Saturday were to remain in the mid 60s
and fall into the upper 40s that evening. Highs on Sunday should be in the upper
60s.
By Monday afternoon, conditions should warm almost back to normal, with
highs in the mid 70s, the weather service said.

Another cold front is to
roll over the region by Tuesday, dipping temperatures into the 40s again on
Tuesday and Wednesday nights, said meteorologist Gordon Strassberg.

This
"quick succession of fronts" is typical of January, Tingler said.

"At
least we're not farther north, stuck in an ice storm," he said.

This
weekend's cold spell was expected to blanket the entire state and stick around
just long enough to keep the Super Bowl in
Tampa Bay on the cool side.

The game time temperature on Sunday was
forecast to be about 60 degrees and drop into the mid 50s later in the night,
said meteorologist Jennifer Colson of the National Weather Service in Tampa
Bay.

"There's no rain in the forecast," she said.
