Celebrating a Birthday: a Movie, Dinner, Ice Cream

Normally on
Fridays Allen and I go to a
movie and then a late
lunch--lately at the Quarterdeck. It being a Friday, and his birthday, we switched it a
little by going more upscale all the way. We started off by going to see
"Toy Story 3" in 3D at the Muvico theatre in Pompano which was a good start. (Posted my review
yesterday.) For the first time in a long time we got a popcorn and soda--shared both knowing we
would be going out to eat after the movie.

I had seen an ad for a restaurant called
Christina's by the Sea which was featuring a 20 ounce prime rib dinner
and both the name and the dinner appealed to me so that's where we
headed after the movie. It turned out that the restaurant was in the
Lighthouse Cove Resort right on the ocean.

We got there a
little after 5 and, except
for 4-5 people sitting at the bar, we had the restaurant to ourselves.
There was an outdoor bar area which was a lot more crowded. The dining
room overlooked the pool area and behind that was the beach.
It seems the Lighthouse Cove Resort is a timeshare and had a lot of places for sale.

We sat by the
window. overlooking the pool and beach and Tony was our
waiter. There was also  a lounge piano player/singer who played songs
mainly from the 50s and 60s.
A couple of more people came in and sat at the bar. From what I could
tell from the bar customers and the entertainer the place catered to an older, neighborhood crowd.

After dinner (I'll post my review on the
restaurant tomorrow or Monday) we took a walk out in the back of the
Lighthouse Cove Resort --I kept on looking for the cove--to find you
needed a code number to get into the pool area and you had to register
to use the beach.

When Tony asked
if we wanted dessert we responded by asking him if there was an ice
cream place around and he mentioned Killwin's and my ears immediately perked up. I
asked him if it was related to the Killwin's on Los Olas where they make home made ice
cream,  chocolates, fudge, candy covered apples and all sorts of treats &,
when he said that it was, I knew where we were heading and off we went.

It was difficult
finding a parking place but we did and preceded to go to Killwin's and had our ice cream and then
it was time to call Allen's birthday celebration to an end
--for a guy who doesn't
celebrate, or think of his birthday, I think the birth of the twins, and
our day out, helped him enjoy it this year.
