California Pizza Kitchen--a Restaurant Review

The first time I was in
this chain restaurant was 15 years ago when they opened. We didn't stay as they
didn't allow smoking in the restaurant--my how times have changed--I no longer
smoke and smoking is not allowed in any restaurants!

I did go again about 2 years ago but wasn't really
impressed. Last week I received an e-mail from their web
page--www.ck.com--promoting new items with 20% off when ordering these items. Be
careful of the 'fine print' as you don't get 20% off anything else including
drinks like Iced tea.

The interior of the restaurant is bright with plenty
of open space. The servers wear white shirts, black pants and red ties and their
name badges also state where they are from originally.

Our waitress seemed to be
a veteran who wasn't exactly with it. She did give us refills without having to
be asked but after saying she would bring the grated cheese and red pepper
shaker she never did and bringing us the check took longer than it should have.
I don't think she was in the weeds but just seemed to a little off.

Allen and I ordered, and
shared, a Moroccan Chicken salad consisting of spiced chicken breast, Romaine
lettuce, roasted butternut squash, Medjool dates, avocado, toasted almonds,
beets, chopped eggs, dried cranberries and red bell peepers tossed in a champagne
vinaigrette. With all those different items and that dressing you would think
the salad would be tasty but it was almost bland.

After that, though I would
have preferred both items at the same time but wasn't given that option even
though I should have asked it to be served that way, we had The Meat Cravers pizza. It was a combination of
Italian sausage, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, Capicola ham, julienne salami, mozzarella
cheese and tomato sauce. It was just the right size with a good crust but very
oily and too salty, both mainly due to the ingredients on top of the sauce.

We both drank diet
soda--of course!  LOL

After we finally got the
check I looked it over and felt something was wrong. I called the waitress over
and she explained the 20% was only taken off the NEW items, not the sodas. Even
with that something was wrong--it just didn't add up correctly including with
the discount. We eventually had the manager over and I showed him my figures and
that didn't add to what was on the check. Long story short--I was right and he
said there was some sort of glitch with the computer and the new promotion--the
check was off by $4.

Including a $5 tip the check came to $24. 49.

Though the surroundings were pleasant and the help
nice to look at the food was just average and wouldn't be on my list of a place
to go back to again
