The Boys Are Back--a Movie Review

"The Boys Are Back" was/ is a cry fest from beginning to end for me. Have a wife dying at the beginning of a movie and the husband left with two children, what do you expect?

I have always been a sucker for any film regarding relations between a father and son and here we have a father with a 6 year old son and an older boy from his previous wife that he hasn't seen for 6 years. The tear ducts are open from beginning to end.

The father, played by Clive Own, shows permissive parenting as far as it can go ;e being looked for from his in-laws and neighbors, one of which is interested in him until she, too, can't deal with his ways with the boys and lack of discipline regarding keeping after the house.

There are two standouts in this film, one of them being Clive Owen, who tries to sublimate his sexiness but can't and the beauty of Australia which always overpowers any scene.

This is not to negate the boys played by George and Nicholas who are full of anxiety, the former, and cute and morass, the latter, as the younger son. Their emotions are real and their brief scenes of joy with their dad are just that. When living in 'Pig Heaven' as they refer to their home you can tell that, while, permissiveness can be sloppy it can also be fun.

One of the most poignant scenes is when George, the older boy, asks Clive why the latter left him.

Okay, I am a softy and I love to cry in movies--this provided me with the tears!

I recommend it.
