friends pet(s) as you hope they won't get sick, or worse, die, while
they are in your care. I wrote in my blog Saturday that Jill's birds
are having a 'vacation' at my place.
DANIEL ALEX
ANDI
The only one I
thought I might have a problem with was Andi. She was a 'rescue' bird
and even after Jill having her all these years and nurturing her you
could call Andi 'nervous' and, maybe even 'high strung', and a
squawker. Her tail feathers are all raggedy and I think it is more from
banging against the sides of the cage when she 'panics' then from her
plucking them but I will have to ask Jill about that.
I had absolutely
no problems with either the tiels or the budgies when I transferred them to another cage so I could clean
the cages they were in. Jill didn't want me to let them out of their
cages as I do my tiels so on
Monday I was very careful when I decided to see what they would do if I
left their cage door open while I sat very close to their cages. The
most the 4 would do is come out on the platform and stand there though
Daniel did climb to the top of the cage once. It is now 4 days later and
when I do open their cage door--after I put my girls back into their
cage--they just hang around on the platforms--I do keep a very close eye
on them because they don't know how to fly and I don't want them
falling down to the floor and maybe hurting a wing. Alex will hop on to
my finger but Daniel won't and they and the budgies won't step up on a
stick though Jill showed me that Andi will when you want to move her to a
carrying cage.
My tiels, Cassie and Lola, ignore all of them
and, I find this funny, won't even get close to Andi's cage. From what
Jill showed, and told me, I decided not to clean Andi's cage til next
Sunday to give her time to get use to me.
Andi has been the most surprising to me. For
instance right now she is playing a 'game' with me, I think. She will
squawk when my back is turned toward her and as soon as I turn to look
at her she gets quiet, sort of a "Who me?" stance.
All the birds
have been very good as far as keeping quiet at night, even Andi whose
shrill squawk can go right through you. They really don't make any noise
from when I turn the light out at night until I am reading to feed and
give them water in the morning when I am ready to. I mentioned to Jill
that every evening after I give my tiels and finches a seed treat and put, maybe, a teaspoon of seeds on the
floor of the other cages, it seems to me as if the 4 tiels are talking to each other.
Daniel and Alex are fairly quiet compared to Cassie and Lola but about
10:30 PM all the tiels seem
to whistle, 'talk' to each other but it could be my imagination.
Regarding Andi, the first two days she would
get a little wild whenever I caem near her cage let alone when I put a
hand in to change food and water cup. Now, 5 days later, she just
perches, doesn't squawk or jump away from me and she is about as far
from me as you are from your computer when I sit at my dining room table
eating and/or reading just observing/looking at me. Yes, she does have
her LOUD moments but--and I don't know if this works for Jill--but all I
have to do is look at her or just call "Hush" and she does just that.
And now she is playing her, "Who me making noise?" game.
Sunday, after I
clean Andi's cage and get her settled, I plan to see if I can get them
all to eat some millet out of my hand after I let Cassie and Lola show
them how to do it and that it is okay. Talking about Cassie and Lola I
better give them some attention before they start squawking!!! LOL
