Arjan's Restaurant---a Review

  Coming Monday--GreatMartin's Avatar
Contest

***************************************************

I've bought a few $25 coupons for $2 each from
restaurant.com and we decided to give this one a try. Like most coupons in this
kind of deal you have to buy $35 worth of food and/or drink--have to read the
small print-so, usually with tax and tip our lunches cost $10 each.

Arjan's isn't far from the beach and right over the
Oakland Park boulevard bridge which is always a nice drive--almost like you are
driving into the sky and clouds, not to forget the ocean. The restaurant is in a
strip mall right across the bridge from the Flip-Flop Dockside eatery where we
ate last week and the latter certainly has a better view.

Arjan's has a small storefront with a couple of
tables in the front , a couple outside and a long, narrow kitchen in the rear.
On the menu it says 'food made from scratch' but I would argue that point.

The owner (?) came over and took our order and we
served ourselves to our drinks both having a bottle of diet soda ($2.25 each).
The outside marquee said "Home of the Shish Kebob" so I ordered the chicken
shish kabob ($12.99) 'marinated in Asian spices and served over a bed of Basmati rice' while Allen ordered the house salad ($5.99), which was not made from
scratch, coming with mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots red onions and
croutons. One thing we always forget when ordering a salad is to say 'no
croutons' and we wind up having to pick them out. It was a good size salad,
enough to be divided between us.

Along with the salad he ordered the fried shrimp
($12.99), definitely not made from scratch--hey, you are going to put that on
your menu you are open to criticism--which came with a baked potato and
broccoli.

The kabob came with two skewers of 4-5 pieces of
chicken on each along with green peppers and onions and a generous portion of
rice.

Allen found it too be too much food for him while
though I was satisfied with mine I could have opted for dessert considering they
had a large Italian bakery two doors down loaded with goodies. Believe it or not
I did walk in, took a long look and a big inhale but left without getting any of
the delectable looking pastries. It takes a little maneuvering to get into the
shopping strip and the bakery deserves the effort!

Between our meals, the sodas, tax and the tip our
check came to $45.07 and minus the $25, as I had figured, $10 each. It was a
nice lunch for $10 but not worth the $45 so I guess we won't be going back. As
it is I have 7 more coupons of various denominations!
