In the 1960s I took a
vocational exam at NYU and one of the
results was that I had zero ability in mechanics, which didn't surprise
me.
I didn't start driving until 1967 when I was 31.
Before I even got my driver's license I applied for, and got, membership in AAA.
I didn't know how to change a tire and I didn't want to know how to change a
tire.
Cookie is going to work on
a cruise ship which meant I had more access to the car and, since we are trying
to figure out the mileage, we let the
gas run down and I was going to fill it up on the way to do my food shopping. I
decided I would also check the water and oil levels so I brought a gallon of
water with me to the car. I opened the hood, took the cap off the radiator and
poured in the gallon of water and then another and finally a third. Something
just didn't seem right but I didn't see anything wrong until I took out the oil
dip stick and saw water pouring out! Yes, I did it! I had put water into the oil
tank. DUH! The radiator cap was yellow--yes, small, but yellow and the black cap
on the oil tank had 'oil' imprinted---in black!!!
Adding insult to injury I than got behind the wheel
and started the motor. You would think I /knew know better but I didn't and
don't.
I did learn oil and water don't mix and could be fatal to an engine but I don't' about the
latter---YET!
One of the Gateway
maintenance men has a friend who is a professional mechanic so we called him.
This was about 11:30 AM and he was suppose to call back in an hour or an hour
and a half--he didn't. I finally spoke to him at 3 and he said he would call
before 5, which he did, and told me he would be here in the morning--we'll
see.
Didn't get the food shopping done but did get a few
'to do' items while waiting for the phone call from the mechanic since I
couldn't be on the Internet having the one phone line.
And what did YOU learn
today????? LOL
