In all I have written 10 books of which 3 were
cookbooks, 1 a book on motivation, 1 what I call my 'pot boiler' and 4
fictionalized nnonfictionand 1 nnonfictionplus a play. What follows are the
synopses of the pot boiler, fictionalized nnonfictionand the one nnonfiction
Though all my books are special to me and an author
is not suppose to have a favorite I must confess "The Free Prisoner" (142 pages)
is the one I always want people to read first. Though labeled fiction it
actually is my story of discovering my sexuality in the Bronx at the age of 11
and exploring it in all sorts of places, with all sorts of people, in Manhattan
during my teens and ending when I enlisted in the United States Marine
Corps.
The last book I had published just before I started
blogging was "Letting It All Hang Out" (304 pages) where in the Dedication I
state, "To you, the reader, I hope my journey through life will help you, even
if it is to learn what paths not to follow." It was a series of blogs before I
knew what blogs were and, something which I very seldom do, even has a couple
of chapters on what I do sexually! (LOL)
The hardest book for me to write was "For What We
Had" (273 pages) as it was written after Bill, the love of my life, and I called
it quits. Everything in it happened and was true. The book is really an anatomy
of a love affair which started the first day we spoke to each other and consists
of letters, books and cards we exchanged plus notes from my journals. I suffered
a lot of mental and physical pain for a long time after we broke up and the
writing of this book was a salvation to and for me. The book also helped me make
some decisions that would affect my life forever after.
"And The Oscar Goes to..." (351 pages) is what I
call my JacqueJacquelinene/Harold Robbins pot boiler. It follows the lives of
the five women who have been nominated for the best actress from their date of
birth til thtilleremony in Hollywood.
"The Looks of Love" (287) covers my years with
Weight Watchers, moving to Memphis and the longest time I was to be with
someone, ironically someone I threw out of a cab on 5th Avenue on our first
'date'. It, also, covers my going into therapy and an affair I would have before
I left Memphis. Of course this is all fiction!
"The Gay Pariahs" (331 pages) is a story about gay
life in Florida, California and New York before, and when, AIDS came to the gay
community and covers all types of gay people from the fems to the butch, from
the stereotypes to the ones 'straight acting'. It is a behind the scenes look at
gay life that is very seldom seen.
The very first blog I posted was the first chapter
from a new new boowas writing regarding gay life in Miami Beach during the 50s
and was going to concentrate on Joe and Albyn who were my mentors and at the
time of Joe's death they had been together over 50 years.
I have 2 other books that I have started--I am
always working on 2 or 3 projects at a time--and I have a folder of ideas for
future books--IF I EVER STOP SPENDING SO MUCH TIME BLOGGING AND COMMENTING ON
BLOGS! LOL
Tomorrow--Part 4---one performance on Broadway of a
play I wrote.
