Florida and I love to see and do it all. Most times people who live in
a city only go to see the sites when they have visitors and though I do
that too I don't hesitate to go to places available that makes the area
so much fun to live in.
Every Floridian, at one time or another, has to go to the Everglades and it is worth a trip to take a ride on the air boats and see all the fauna and inhabitants of this special area.
Whether
having guests in town or to go to the movies or just to go down and
look at the boats The Riverfront which has been a white elephant since
it was built is still a favorite place of mine to go.
Recently, thanks to John, Allen and I took a trip down to the First Baptist Church in downtown Fort Lauderdale for lunch and was bedazzled by the various rooms, the main hall and the artistic works within the church.
There are always street fairs, boat shows, art shows and all sorts of outside events in Sunny Fort Lauderdale and at the same time there are special events in the convention center
such as car and home shows and I went to the latter this year. Also,
Don a resident who lives in my complex, told me about the Packard
Museum which I never knew existed so Allen and I spent an afternoon
there and even if you aren't a car lover this place will impress you.
Though i can't afford to go to touring shows at out Broward Performing Arts Center there was no way I couldn't afford NOT to see
the touring revival of "A Chorus Line" and went to see it 4 times. As
Hal Prince, the Broadway producer and director, winner of more Tony
Awards than anyone else, said about the Center, "It's placement leading
to the water makes it the most beautiful performing arts center
anywhere, especially in the evening." On the other hand one can take a
trip out to the western area of Broward county and go to the huge Sawgrass outlet mall and spend a day and evening shopping to ones heart's content.
Needless
to say having gone to the movies 79 times in 2009 a few of the places I
go to are the many theatres around town from the neighborhood Gateway
Theatre where they show all genres of films from foreign to gay to
action. Another favorite movie house is the AMC multiplex theatres plus the Regal Cinemas not to forget the Sunrise11
and downtown Riverfront theatres. Also, there is the huge IMAX theatre in the discovery museum.
Of
course the main attractions in Fort Lauderdale, and most of the east
coast of Florida, are the beaches and for some reason, I really don't
understand why LOL, is the famous/infamous Haulover beach where nudism
is not only allowed but encouraged.
A new place I visited in 2009 was John's new townhouse in Wilton Manors--though not yet a 'must see' it is on its way!!! :O)
