Flu Vaccine

Hi,Everyone.
Yesterday Mike and I got our annual flu shot that we have been over the years.
I for one never or we have never had any problems with it so far.
So,tonight while reading the newspaper, came across this letter to the editor.
Pretty weird to me to read this.
I am sure they will be lot of feedback on this.
Not sure what GBS is.
So here is the letter that was written.
This is our second day of the shot.
Waiting to see or no not waiting to see what happens.

Some people who get the flu vaccine could get more than just flu protection. A person could get Guillain Barre Syndrome. They don't tell you that.

Our daughter received the flu shot, and a couple days later she developed GBS. It is potentially deadly or crippling. She lost all feeling in her legs at the time. Then got worse as it attacked her nerves, slowly rising from her feet to her chest. As it goes up, it kills the nerves and complicates all autonomic systems, blood pressure, even going the bathroom. She had to be cathoded for a long time. She also never regained her ability to walk.

So think of this before you decide to get a flu shot. You may get more than you want.

Guillain-Barre (ghee-YA-buh-RAY) syndrome is a disorder in which your body's immune system attacks your nerves. Weakness and tingling in your extremities are usually the first symptoms. These sensations can quickly spread, eventually paralyzing your whole body. In its most severe form, Guillain-Barre syndrome is a medical emergency requiring hospitalization.

The exact cause of Guillain-Barre syndrome is unknown, but it is often preceded by an infectious illness such as a respiratory infection or the stomach flu. Luckily, Guillain-Barre syndrome is uncommon, affecting only 1 or 2 people per 100,000.

There's no known cure for Guillain-Barre syndrome, but several treatments can ease symptoms and reduce the duration of the illness. Most people recover from Guillain-Barre syndrome, though some may experience lingering effects from it, such as weakness, numbness or fatigue.

One of my Aunties had an allergic reaction that triggered this disease. She never got better, either. They said lots of times people get it from allergic reactions. One more thing to worry about.

I won't get mine until the first of November or the middle of October. It
usually isn't cold until then.

I just heard (TV) that if you keep to yourself (like I do), eat and sleep right, wash your hands, etc., there's little chance you'll get the flu. That's my "shot". I've gotten a flu shot once in my life. Guess what? I still got the flu--the only time I ever got it!

Maybe the flu shot gave you the flu

My wife is an RN and she's been doing clinics at the local Wal-Marts.

Hey Tim,nice hearing from you and she knows the score.

Side effects are so very rare- but flu deaths are not, especially among the elderly. Our bodies are no longer what they used to be.

well she was I gather a young person.I believed that she had this before the shot. Will see if there is any feedback tonight on this.

This year's vaccine is the same as last year, so I might skip it unless they are pushing doses when I see the doc in late November. Nothing is 100%, but for the millions of doses administered, very few people have complications of any kind.

there is always someone complaining about this and believed that the flu shot did not cause whatever she had.She may have been sick with that disease and the shot was too much for her?

Wonder if this is the same woman whose daughter became retarded due to the vaccine in Texas?!?!?

Had mine 3 weeks ago--all is fine!
