Preparing for Christmas Eve

I have no idea how many that I am cooking for because we never know if Sara will have a migraine and not be able to come. I am smoking a turkey breast today and will bake a ham tomorrow morning. Today will be devoted to making an angel food cake (mix of course) and pie. Only a little cleaning because it will be to do all over after they are gone. Christmas day, we are invited to Christmas dinner with our circle of friends. I may have told you that earlier a friend rented a limousine and all fourteen of us looked at spectacular Christmas decorations in the ritziest part of Oklahoma City. We had wine, sandwiches and Christmas cookies and it was a lot of fun. A party on wheels and when it was over, there was no clean up. we decided to make it an annual event. My Sil, who is an artist, made ear rings for me to give to everyone at our investment club and other friends. My Christmas shopping is all done and ready to go. The packages that I sent arrived on time. All is well, except for the fact that the spirit of joy is missing. It is a sad anniversary for me but I am thankful for my daughter and my friends for making it bearable.

It's bitter-sweet for so many people. I was honored to be a part of his service. Merry Christmas to you and Ted and the doggies.

I think angel food cake made from mixes has come a long way from the early 1970s when my mother embarked on a mission to become proficient at making them from scratch because she thought the mix had a bad taste to it. She was a very gung ho sort of person, threw herself into these projects. I didn't live there at the time, but remember her talking about it, and she really liked the hot cakes right out of the oven, so ate a lot of them right away. I don't know what she did with all the egg yolks. She might have made noodles, but it seems like her mission to conquer the noodle challenge was at a different time. Thanks for reminding me of this family memory.
