The alley behind my house is littered with tree limbs
and branches. We had winds of 80mph Friday morning. The
trees literally looked like they were spinning and it was
accompanied with torrential rain.
A tree came crashing down on our fence. It took an electric cable with it which was very scary. I called
the utility company and they sent help as soon as they could which happened to be at 4:30 a.m. Saturday. I was
up because of my periodic insomnia. The guy from the electric company stood on the porch with his flashlight
trained on his ID which I appreciated.
Once he made sure we were in no danger from the cable, he
wrote up his report. He had been working l3 and a half
hours already so I fixed him a big cup of coffee to go.
He didn't get off work until 7 a.m and he assured me that
someone would be out on Saturday.
The tree people came out and cut it off the fence but they did a sloppy job and left the debris in the alley.
They said it was the adjacent church who was
responsible for cleaning it up. I am pretending that
I don't see it.
There is a lot of cleaning to do in the back yard but
the storm brought cold wind with it and I am going to
leave it until it warms up. Leaves and sticks are every
where but fortunately the cable is gone.
We go through the storm season with our fingers crossed.
We have a storm cellar and there are three more houses
with cellars in our block so shelter is available to the
neighbors who don't have one. We keep a back pack with
important papers in it handy during the season.
