Even the best dressed of Oklahoma men wear jeans and drillers hats when enjoying leisure time. You can imagine my surprise when I encountered two men, both wearing derby hats at two different times this week. Both of them wore jeans and tee shirts to complete their outfits. I was intrigued. Do you suppose it is some new fad?

I don't think I have ever seen one actually worn outside of
British films. I have always imagined that their proper place was with a dark suit of continental cut. It is seriously wierd to see them paired with tee shirts that have sports logos and jeans.

My father always wore a Stetson which served a purpose. He switched to a straw cowboy hat in the summer. The broad brims protected one from sun and rain. Having grown up in a cowboy culture, he always looked just right to me.

We never missed a rodeo and I still like them a lot. I remember when the boys in my highschool class tested their
manhood by roping and riding bulls. They would have scorned sissies in derby hats.
