A.j. Posted His Review ...

I am truly humbled by A.J.'s (lunarhunk) review of my manuscript and I commend him for struggling through the typos. Fortunately, I paid for a professional proofreader to correct the errors before final publication.

I must admit that I know nothing about marketing a book. Heck, I have been painting now for six years and never figured out how to successfully market my artwork, so what makes me think I am going to figure out how to market a book in a few short weeks? I did a quicky book trailer and posted it to YouTube.com but I am going to have to re-do that too!

How to get a manuscript/book reviewed? Beats me! I scoured the internet only to discover that newspaper book reviewers and others want galley proofs- well ahead of the publication date. That is not likely as I will not have copies to send until after publication. What a conundrum! I even checked out the Oprah book reviews just in case... hopeless...sigh! No unsolicited submissions accepted. Oprah just gets too many, and many of the other reviewers charge reading fees. Wish I had an agent. That would simplify things.

Well, I need to start the cover art. That cover was temporay- intended just for the manuscript, although I really like that painting. Still, it does not convey the feel of the Appalachians and I want the reader to 'feel' the location as soon as they see the cover.

So much to think about. So much to do.

Please read lunarhunk's review of my book.

I read the synopsis and A. J.'s review. I know this is a lot of work but
it will be so great to see it in the final version.

Fortunately, I will not have to do as much work as I thought I might.

Dottie, check at your local library to see if they have a reference book called The Writer's Market that is published by Writer's Digest. It is a book that comes out annually and is basically a wonderful guide to publishers. It includes indexes that help you find publishers and imprints who would publish in your subject area. The early chapters are also great for helping with outlining the process for prepping a packet to send to publishers to finding and selecting an agent. It is a treasure-trove of information.

I own older copies of both. Too expensive to keep them current.

BTW, that publisher also has an annual book called Artist's Market, which works similarly for artists. Not as many libraries carry this one, though.
