Where Were You on 9/11?

Most people remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news about the attack on the World Trade Center. Where were you? How has it impacted your life?

I was at home and watched it live on TV. At the time, I was still working as an Licensed Clinical Social Worker and was a certified trauma counselor. Within days, I received calls to go to Arlington to provide trauma counseling and one call to lead a team because I was also a certified supervisor. I declined both requests. My gut told me that it would be my undoing. My own sense of safety and security was so utterly shattered that I could not help anyone else. It shook me so thoroughly that I retired from social work completely. I have not worked since.

I had come off the golf course. Somehow, my score didn't mean much.

I actually had to not read the articles that were in yesterday and today's papers about the various dedications and remembrances. It probably sounds terrible, but it just is too difficult for me. I didn't know anyone personally, but I was really bothered by the horrible pain and loss that the attack caused.

It is amazing to me how deeply this continues to affect us both as a nation and individually.

Not an easy post. Many visited- few commented.

Ray and I were both home. I had the day off because of doctor's appointment. The result is that we both got to watch live. Driving to my appointment that afternoon as well as interacting with everyone was eerie. Everyone was in an odd fog, as everyone was trying to figure out what was happening and what it meant to everyone.

Ten years later and it is still hard for people to talk about. Yes, we were all dazed and confused that day.

We were just getting up when we got a phone call from Avis telling us to
turn on the tv. We did and at first thought it was an accident, then we
knew what was happening when the second tower went down. It was very
frightening. All I could think was how glad we were that Bobby who was
a trader on the 66th floor of the World Trade Center was back home to
stay. He lost a lot of friends. The Oklahoma City bombing impacted us
much more emotionally. I think the images of the little children being
carried out of the bombed out Federal Bldg were devastating.
