Third Hand Smoking

Now I've heard it all. Doctors and other scientific types are now saying that the smoke that lingers in your clothing, furniture, walls, carpets, drapes, etc is just as toxic as first and second hand smoke. They call this one third hand smoke(in case you didn't catch the title.) Personally I think it's our government wanting more control over smokers' lives. First of all, they ban smoking in all government buildings(post offices, police stations, etc.) Then some states have adopted a no smoking in all public places. Now, to me, it seems like they want to stop smoking inside any enclosed place(vehicles included.) Personally, I'm a non-smoker. I never started because of health reasons and never cared for that addiction. If you smoke, that's your right. My biggest gripe is that there are some that smoke in the presence of children (ie: inside any enclosed area like their house or a car.) These kids don't need to breathe the toxins cigarettes produce. When they become adults and decide to smoke themselves, more power to them. Don't harm the kiddies. I don't think that the government should intervene in a smoker's rights. If a store or restaurant wants to become non-smoking that's their right to do so. They shouldn't be forced to do so by our government. I read a reply to a comment on coincutter's post that he stated about designated smoking areas. If they are well ventilated and cut off from non-smoking area, so be it. I don't go to restaurants that allow smoking because a smoking area in a restaurant is like a peeing area in a swimming pool.
'nuff said.

I quit smoking, when all my 3 kids were born (quit and started again later). They don't have the "means" to move away, and they don't know what's bad for them. I feel, it is bad (to them).. so I stopped.

Adults are "different" to me. They can go "around a smoker", they aren't "trapped" in a smoke filled place. To me, most "anti-smokers" (the ones that want to impose their rules) on everyone, are the "baddies"...

I believe, if you own an "establishment", you should be able to make it "Smoking or not". If you own a "restaraunt", "bar" ,... you choose what goes on. not the government. That way the "people" decide where they spend money...

Draco, I believe in FREE rights for all!! And I believe if someone wants to smoke, that's a right.. I believe "big places" like malls and such, should make smoking and non-smoking area's.... I just think this world is "Big enough" for all of us!

I smoke outside and I totally respect people who are non smokers... I try not to kill their lungs like I do mine...

When I did smoke it was always outside of my home so my kid wouldn't be around it, and I can honestly say I have never smoked in a restaurant since I would rather taste my food than a cigarette. Mine or anyone else's. Now I can't stand to be around it at all, but it's still an infringement on personal freedoms to ban it everywhere, even on a personally owned vehicle or outside in a designnated area.
