A Journey Into My Life

Work Ethics

I was talking to "Jeremy (15 this week), and Stephen (17) today (Roxann's kids).

I told them, the other day.. I went over to the neighbors house and mowed his yard for free. I seen him mowing with a small "crappy ass push mower", and we have the rider I fixed. Would have taken him forever.

So I got to thinking. These kids could mow it with the "rider", and make a few bucks. I got to thinking again... before they "offer", I want him to offer some payment that's LOW. I DON'T want him to overpay them. They haven't asked yet, but I know how big his yard is. I know he will jump on the deal.

Ok, so here is my "theory". I know many people in need like that "overpay". Yes, and I love it when it happens to me.. lol. However, I want to teach these kids some "work ethics". They aren't adults, but will be soon. Thus far in life, everything has been handed to them. I'd like them to make a few bucks "for their work", but again not too much either. Basically, I don't want them to think "life" is a free ride. People work, and work HARD for the little they get.

I'm gonna go talk to the guy soon. I'll say it like this. I'd actually do your yard free all summer. It's not a big deal. But these kids need to learn some "work ethics". I'll say.. if you want them to mow it. I'll do the up-keep on the mower. All that. DO NOT However, pay alot! I serious want to avoid that. What I really want is the kids to learn the "value of making a dollar", and the neighbor getting a good deal with mowing". With the push mower he has, it's an all day thing. With the 12 hp rider we have.. an hour or so.

Just wonder what you think... let me know what you think of my "parenting" skills.. lol.
