A Journey Into My Life

Old Friend Died

Just heard the news. I got a call from a good friend that I am still in contact with. He told me, "Carl Meyers" died yesterday.

He was a friend, back in the day we "partied together". I really haven't had contact with him for years though. I still have all the memories.

He was like a "jock" in school.. I was considered the "burnout", but back then all the "stereotypes" were blurred. Some burnouts (like me were great students), some jocks smoked pot. Anyway.. we hung out at times.. but not all the time because we were most with a different crowd.

Still I knew him enough to pay my respects.. so I will be going to his funeral Monday. My brother and friend Nick will be going.. as well as (I am certain) many others I know and haven't seen in awhile. I was class of 85, Nick was class of 86, Brother Brian was class of 87. We went to a small school, so everyone knew everyone pretty well.

I heard he gained alot of weight in later years.. probably drank too much. But get this.. what did him in was a "simple" thing. He was working (Mining I guess) and he got a cut. Well that led to blood poison and it finally killed him.

RIP Carl!! Will always remember ya!

Update on Carl... we just found the "Obituary" online. He served during the Gulf war. he graduated from my High School (Byron Michigan 1986), and then served in the "Michigan National Guard - 144th Military Police on Owosso Michigan. He served during the Gulf war, and was a member of the "Durand moose Lounge".
