Post Olympics

Finally able to get on share some of our Olympic experience. And what an experience that was.
We got our tickets at the very last minute. We had in fact given up on getting tickets.
Like everyone else we have been watching the  Olympic story for several years. We heard about the bad air, expensive hotels and of course the big crowds.
We were pleasantly surprised, we found a hotel 2 blocks away from the Olympic venues. We were only able to get tickets for the track and field finals but the atmosphere and the excitement of seeing Usain Bolt break his third world record was exciting.
I have seen the birds nest at least 1000 times in print and on t.v. but I must admit it was incredible in real life. The aquatic cube where Phelps won so many medals was smaller than I anticipated but incredibly beautiful.

Walking around the incredibly well maintained grounds along with people from every corner of the world was a real feel good moment.
Seeing the Today Show set with Al Roker, Matt Lauer, Ann Curry et al in China was pretty cool. It was hard to hear them but we could see them do their report. I felt sorry for them as they were doing their show in the early evening Beijing time which was 7:00 am New York time  so they could not go to the events.
The weather was fantastic the sky was very blue, the air was clean.
Our first Olympics were perfect.

The olympics on TV were eye-opening. Of course, the Chinese were putting their best foot forward. But you're my "on-sight" expert! Thanks for the report, albeit brief.

I saw some of the behind the scenes type reports form NBC and the other nets including BBC America. Those little "alleys" that open onto the main drag. Rows of modern electric meters and these old-world "houses" where you could see right in from the alley. Very interesting, even in China's most modern(?) city. I've always been fascinated by that country and its culture.
