In the beginning stage of dating my husband, we wrote in a journal. I read about doing this somewhere and thought I could give it a try. The rule was you could write anything you wanted.. happy, mad, sad, glad, it stayed in the journal, the response would not be a verbal one, but answered back in written words.
The first year was mainly mushy..poetry, cards, etc. The second year the entries were more of a serious nature , a bit more critical. We always put the journal on top of the pillow, in the bedroom. That meant... " You've got mail~"
Over the last 5 + years we haven't had a journal. Things got busy and the writing stopped.
This morning I woke up and under the tree was a journal with a beautiful gray cat-wearing her pearls , resembling "Carmelia", the queen of the felines here. Inside was a note that read....

Christmas Day 2005
Dear Cindy
This is a gift from all of your "kitty friends" as their queen I was tasked with giving you a present. Since we cats are interently superior to all other beings what better gift than a likeness of the queen. As an aside, your pearls do go nicely with my attire.
I hear you talking about the old journal that you and your husband used to writein and I thought maybe you could use a new one. We see you write a lot on the blog, but we don't think it's the ideas, thoughts and feelings that concern you most with your husband. For example, how do you feel about this being the first Christmas without all the children around? Your decoration are beautiful, we watched you each day and we could tell that your heart is in every ornament. I know this doesn't sound much like a feline, but I've always thought that Christmas was for other's, i.e. the giving of the gifts not the recieving. The joy you can make for others. This will be the first year there are not one or two children around to open present on Christmas day or spend Christmas Eve with you. Quite an adjustment. On the other hand if the children are all happy, have their own families and keep Christmas in their heart then you have done a fine fine job all these Christmas' past.
I must go now. You will need to brush me and feed me.

All I can say is Santa's magic dust is a mighty powerful potion, when reindeer can fly and animals can write. ( it doesn't help their spelling, but I'm not complaining) Merry Christmas all.
