Peace, Love And Grooviness

No Dogs = Wildlife Refuge

Since I'm at Mom's full time, my dogs are too.

Without Gertie (my beagle), my yard - front, back and sides - has become a haven for burrowing critters.

The ugliest are star-nosed moles. Ugh!

They leave big piles of dirt at the ends of their tunnels. Quite messy.

The most prolific are the regular moles. You can't take a step without sinking up to your ankles in the back yard. The front is almost as bad.

I also have voles. They look like mice, only bigger. But they make holes all over the place - another hazard.

And finally, a groundhog has decided to live under my deck.

I hired a landscaper to install some grass, and asked him to get rid of the moles too. He installed 12 traps and has caught many moles. They are coming from my neighbor's yard. Nice of him to share.

We don't have the infestation here that you have. Maybe it's the many neighbor hood dogs in our corner who are allowed to run free in the morning. They leave us little presents on our lawn (you should hear Ed on that subject) but maybe they make up for it, by chasing the vermin.

You may have given me an idea. I wonder if my neighbor would share his dog while mine aren't there. After all, he shares his moles.
