Lion to Lamb

How did this happen? March is almost over. Not many lion-like days here. Ten wonderful summer days in the middle of the month. It is going out like a lamb, too. We dug up the last of the newly sprouting weeds from the garden. It is ready for planting. We have a bag of baking potatoes in the kitchen that are sprouting. Can I plant them? Is it too early? Randy, as official farmer/gardener, what say you? I am no expert on taters. Our last frost date is the end of May here. My neighbors are doing the weed and feed thing. My back yard looks like a meadow. The grass is really tall. I still have to put the snow blower away and get out the mower.

I'm going to plant my vegetables earlier than usual because it's been such a warm spring, and if frost threatens, I'll cover them with a sheet or something. Right now in Colorado they are 20 degrees warmer than normal and the night-time lows are what we'd expect mid-July - low 40s.

Wow! You get down to mid 40s at night in July? That's winter here.

My rhubarb did not survive the warmish winter so I have to go look for new roots to plant. I simply can't live without strawberry rhubarb pies.

Hmm. Mine survived and looking good.

I did not know rhubarb needed cold winters.

Sure, plant them!! I have already, but nothing's come up. I've heard St. Joseph's Day is when potatoes should be planted. Not sure if it has anything to do with the time of year or whether it will be "blessed" on that day.

Thanks. Now we had rain last night so I have to wait for it to dry out a little bit. Maybe in a few days.

To plant or not to plant. That is the question. One of my tomatoes is
blooming.

My garden center is not even open yet to buy plants or seeds. Not for three more weeks.

I wouldn't put the snow blower away yet--I remember snow storms in the North when I lived there including one in May!!!

We have always, as far back as I can remember, had at least one snow in April. This year we didn't even have one in March.
