Spring and the Wild Birds

I love it when my wild birds arrive in the spring. Of course, I have birds that stay all winter, but the really colorful ones show up this time of year. Here are a few of my favorites that frequent my feeders.

Pine Evening Grosbeak

Blackheaded Grosbeak

Goldfinch

Lesser Finch

I have many red colored birds which are difficult to tell apart. Here are a couple of these birds.

My three most common reddish birds are the following:

Cassin Finch

House Finch

Purple Finch

I hope you enjoy my birds as much as I enjoy them. We spend a small fortune on bird feed around here. We also have jays, cowbirds, woodpeckers, etc.

Oh a woman after my own heart! I am a bird-watcher....come from a family of bird watchers too. My grandpa was a member of the Audubon Society...and that love of birds was passed down to all of us. I was so excited last week when I sat on the porch and watched a humming bird feed on the flowers of the Dogwood tree that is right outside the screen. Then a wren landed on a branch nearby too. Many woodpeckers, etc too. When I was in Iowa, I kept track of all the different birds I would see in our backyard at the feeders. And living right in the heart of town, it seemed to be a real treasure. It's a hobby I will need to get more involved in again. I do so love it!

The birds add so much beauty to our lives, both because of their color and song! I love them ... they are also a sign that Spring is really here!
