The Sound of Silence

Living here on the ranch, by myself, I have discovered the sound of silence. After 31 years of living in California, I had gotten used to the continual sounds of cars, people, machinery.... civilization. Now, that I am living far away from civilization, I find that at times there is nothing but silence. This morning, I haven't heard the breeze, the birds, the coyotes, but only complete silence. It is wonderful. I can just sit and sip my coffee and gaze at the big fluffy clouds as they cross through the very blue skies. Such peace is almost unreal. I have the sense that I am the only leaving soul in the entire world.

Well... that was short lived. The dog is lapping at her water dish and the refrigerator just kicked on. Guess there is other life in my world. lol

You are a great story teller. I was picturing all of that silent majesty until the dog hit the waterbowl and the fridge kicked on. Don't the simple, every day things like that yank us back to reality quickly?

I heard there's going to be a truckers' strike. Will JR be home more to break that silence?

I remember when I lived & worked in Yellowstone National Park...I became so connnected with everything around me. It was the first time in my life I felt at one with the whole world and could stop and listen to the silence and take it in.

Roaring silence--one of my favorite oxymorons. Silence gives us time for reflection and meditation--each equally important in our busy lives.

I think you are very fortunate to live on the ranch. Don't know how I would do living that lifestyle though, although it seems very pretty and serene.

I really enjoy the quiet. Sometimes I think we can fill our world with too much noise. I know some folks who can't think or function without noise going on. One of my college pals used to write all his papers and do his coursework with Queen blaring into his earphones. You are lucky to live in a place where you can relish the quiet and peace.

We have a highway at the end of the driveway, and it gets loud when 18-wheelers pass by, but I can't handle too much quiet. I like it when I go hiking, but that's about it. Too much and I feel isolated from the world, even with a computer. Enjoy!

The sounds of silence. That is how deaf people feel.
Also hearing impaired. The silence is there always.
When I take my aid out and do not hear a thing.
Sometime the sound of silence can be rewarding.

Leave it to a pooch to help us realize how not alone we really are.
