A Grand Entrance

Today JR is finally "finishing" our entrance in to the ranch. This is a project he started several years ago and it has just been a couple of very very tall telephone poles sticking out of the ground on each side of the driveway. Today, he put up the crossbar which is a story in itself for later. Supposedly, he is also going to put some braces on each side for added support. But... if things go the way they have in the past... I'll see those added supports in another couple of years. lol

In the meantime... here are a few "grand entrances" which I have googled. You know... the ranch can be a loosing operation, but if one has a great entrance... everyone thinks it is successful.

The Parker Ranch in Hawaii... definitely successful !!!

Loved the view from this ranch entrance. Any entrance would look good with this background. Those extra supports are what JR is working on now.

I love this really rustic look and again the background view is wonderful!

This Native American style is really cool. Note buffalo in the background.

Great entrance, great view, and really great fence. I've tried to get JR to build some of these fences, but he isn't interested.

Gate with security arm. Our gate needs to keep the cows out of the yard and this just wouldn't work.

The last two pics are what I call citified gates which look more like entrances to subdivisions. For all I know... they just might be in the middle of a Los Angeles suburb. lol

Straight from our ranch to you. Annie :o)

The pictures are all great...from small entrances to big...they all look cool. I love the one with the scenery of the mountains behind it thought. That's my favorite.

There used to be a gate like that around the corner that said Grandpa's Retreat and it washed out in the big 1976 flood, but people still refer to that driveway by that name. We miss it because it was a good landmark. It'd be fun to put a gate like that here, even a lightweight one, but probably not going to happen.

The one with the stone arches and metal gates is a bit much.

The Wolf Springs one looks like it's not going anywhere, even if it is wood.

You're right, Annie. A gate gives the illusion of success. I liked all of those, especially the rustic ones.
