This time two years ago I was in the midst of the 100 year flood. I'm reliving each day through my pictures this one last time, and this time next year I hope we'll be looking forward more than looking back.
Because of the bushes and trees, I couldn't see around the area during the flood, and didn't know if the bridge was still there. Finally, I made it to a vantage point where I could get a glimpse. That's a large blue cooler circling in an eddy by the bridge.
This time next year, the permanent reconstruction of our main highway should be well underway. The highway department has said they plan to start just downstream from my house, and it will be a huge undertaking involving blasting away the side of a mountain and building a long elevated section of highway to make a wider area for the river channel to spread out during high water events.
I hope that they will consider completely closing the highway for a few weeks in order to get the project done quickly rather than having one-way traffic and taking months longer. Of course that won't be convenient for me because I'll have to go around a longer way to get to town, but I'm going to keep my eye on the prize and be cheerful about it.
