Around the Yard

This is one of the flowers in our drought tolerant wildflower mix. The others have been slow to bloom, I hope some of these are still around when they do.

We are going to get these steps replaced with flagstone. I hope it doesn't take too long and drag into November like a lot of projects up here. We were going to keep the goose around to entertain the workmen, but not if it's going to take too long.

There are pretty rocks alongside of them, and I am hoping I will still like how they are arranged when the project is done. The moss will grow back if it gets disturbed.

It has been a good year for the grass along the riverbank. The golden seed stalks are a nice compliment to the green. This is Quackers' favorite grass, so we go to the river to get it for him.

Your grounds are really lovely. Ours need trimming -- beginning to look like yours, sort of.

Men are so funny about hiring someone to do yard work; they think the guy is looking at them like 'you lazy man, why don't you do your own work?' and maybe he is. But his next thought is that he's glad for the work.

The beauty of native plants is that, with their long roots, they can survive droughts and bounce right back.

There are a bunch of columbines all over the place, and this year has been hard on them, but as you say, they will probably be all right next year.

OOOO flagstone steps! I love them, that will be so pretty!

I hope so. The retaining wall is going to be some kind of concrete blocks, and we are debating about the color. Guess who will win that argument.

I loved the look of your yard.
Strawberry and Rhubarb is fine with me.

We have a type of wild strawberry plant growing in our lawn, but it doesn't produce fruit, unfortunately.

I have an excellent scratch plain cake recipe and if I can find it, I will post
it. It can be whipped up with a mixer when most of the ingredients are
dumped in.

I really like this white frosting recipe I found, it doesn't have cream cheese in it, but is as good. I think the only thing is it doesn't have the slight tang of cream cream cheese.

That's okay--I eat mistakes!!!

After all those lovely ones you get from Memphis, you'd be taking a picture of my pathetic attempt and posting it under whimsey. But I'll keep you in mind, Martin.

Well I like carrot cake but you don't get it for me.
comment by greatmartin on Aug 6, 2012 8:01 PM ()
I made some carrot cake cupcakes from a box mix a couple of months ago. It was not as good as from scratch, and I forgot to adjust for the high altitude. I make more pies than cakes.

Nice to have property that can be left natural!

We have lots of grass to water and mow, but don't do much landscaping other than cutting down extra trees that don't belong.
