Turkey Strut

Turkeys have a lot of personality if you get a chance to know them.

Happy holiday to all of you.

Black Friday sales started a few days ago in Las Vegas, probably there are similar stories all across the country. It's cold and windy here today, not what we're used to here in the warm desert, but people have been camped out in front of Best Buy since Monday, planning to get the first jump on wonderful bargains; it's kind of pathetic when you think about it, but easy for me to say - I don't have kids to buy for.

Time to go do some knitting.

None of that Black Friday craziness for me either!

We went to the buffet, thinking it'd be mobbed since the schools were closed (yet again), but totally quiet, everyone spending their gambling money on shopping. It's a slow time of year for the locals casinos, so they lowered the prices on the buffets for the month of December.

The ones that aren't bred in those factory situations are so pretty, with wonderful colors on their heads. One time I saw a wild one in our back yard in the Colorado mountains, just that once. I hope it didn't get eaten by the coyote etc.

Ed mumbled something about going at 4 a.m. to Kohl's for a digital camera (that I would love to have) but that was just a fantasy and I had to laugh because he would have just rolled over if I had awakened him. In any case, even doing that wouldn't be enough because the great unwashed were sleeping in the lot from the night before. That is not for us. As you say, we don't have kids to buy for and saving $15 or $30 on an item is not worth fighting the crowds. We are lucky, I know.

What little we saw, people got up before dawn to buy those doorbusters and then lined up at noon to return a lot of it. There might be some good bargains later if sales don't meet the stores' expectations.

My mother raised turkeys and I remember the mother turkeys calling the
babes to get under her skirts when she sensed danger. The guy turkeys
get very mean when they are full grown.

I remember when my dad went to work at the turkey plant and told us turkeys will hold their mouths open to catch the rain and drown.

Since MONDAY??? whoah. That's crazy. I think all animals have a lot of personality. We just don't get close enough to see it unless they are dogs, cats, guinea pigs, ect.

The economy here is still really bad, 15% unemployment, still, 22% if you add in the under-employed. It will be interesting to see if the stores cut prices deeper in the coming weeks.
