Tree Cutting

A 50 foot tree died along the driveway, and it could be blown over in the high winds we get here in the winter. If it fell wrong, it'd take out the power lines, so Mr. Troutbend had to think about how he was going to cut it down.

Yesterday was the big day.

It is a Douglas fir, the kind of wood that 2 by 4s are made of. The tree was rotten inside up to about 8 feet, and then the rest was clear wood that will burn nicely.

We made one section into a planter, hollowed out the rotten center part.

Quackers helped. He likes anything to do with the wheelbarrow.

Sorry for the double post. I am experimenting with my Kindle Fire on the Interwebs. Obviously, I am still learning and have a long way to go.

Oh my, you make me laugh. BTB, I love the planter. Someone is very good with a chain saw?

I thought it had a dream-like quality to it.

Really like the planter. Several trees on this island crashed into houses during Charley. A huge coconut palm on our lawn leaned over to the water till it almost touched the ground, but it didn't crack. I was staring at it and thinking if it's going to lean, as long as it crashes into John's house (really ugly house) and not mine, we're home free. But it survived. And John's house lives but Ed planted huge bushes so he wouldn't have to look at it.

We've got a few trees here that were bent down by heavy snow and never recovered. It surprises me, because like the hurricane, the snow doesn't last all that long.

I love the planter. It is miserable to have to cut down a tree but
sometimes you just have to and it will keep you warm.

There was a large bush that had grown around it, and I think it choked off this poor tree.

Wow! And we really love Quackers. What a blessing for you (and Quackers.)

I'm sad to see the end of August coming because it won't be the same around here without Quackers.

That Quackers is really something.

He has evolved during the time he's been here. At first, he made little fussy noises to himself, and those have almost gone away, I suppose because he's more settled and happy. Yesterday morning he walked around the house all by himself, maybe looking for the fox. Usually, if we want him in the back yard, it's difficult to get him there.

The outside wood is so good, it seemed like the thing to do. The previous log planter we had lasted 10 years.

I know what you mean. As much as we fretted about the hot, dry weather, I am sorry to see the summer end. For one thing, the goose will be leaving for his new home.
