Bernie Mac Died! Only 50 years old. Apparently he's had a lung condition since 2005 and it turned into pneumonia. He's one of my favorite actors, and I enjoy his television show, partly because it doesn't have a laugh track, but it always makes me laugh.

We watched the Olympic show last night, but with 9 people in the room it was nuts.

There were big thunderstorms in Denver where it was broadcast from, and the sound went out for some of it. We discussed whether it was the Chinese or the American thought police censors who were shutting off the sound. My father-in-law (Mr. Munchkin) kept increasing the volume with the remote, so when the sound came back, you couldn't hear yourself think. So he just sits there clutching the remote, in a commercial-induced trance, and everyone is yelling "George! Turn down the volume!" Finally I grabbed the remote and turned it down while he mumbled 'I didn't touch anything.' Yeah. Right.

It's tedious having to listen to all the analysis of every little thing as to its political message. Oh, let's stop whining about Internet censorship by China and political stuff and just enjoy the sports. At least it's a break from the presidential wrangling and name calling and half-truths.

I've got the show recorded so I can play back some of the amazing visual effects, such as those cubes with people under them that looked like computer animation, and the fireworks.

How about that war in the former Soviet Union? Russia invading Georgia? 1500 people dead? What if Dubya decided one our states was pissing him off and he decided the federal govt should invade upstate New York or somewhere like that? On the Olympic show we saw Dubya and Putin chatting, maybe exchanging ideas about warfare.

What about poor John Edwards? I just hate this witch-hunt atmosphere in America as if every one but him is so perfect, and I think it's none of our business.

There sure was a lot of stuff on this day. Whew! I really enjoyed watching the Olympics and, although I do like to hear and see a little about the country and the people because I like to learn about things like that, it isn't necessary to focus on specific things when it's supposed to be Olympic sport coverage. It was nice to have the Olympics to break up the summer TV viewing doldrums, was't it?

I agree with all your comments. I sure wish someone could come up
with a skeleton in Dubya's closet. That would be poetic justice.
Incidentally, one of his daughter's was always getting in trouble with the law but he quickly put a stop to any publicity and now there are no more stories about her. The power of the presidency.

This whole avaricious tendency to explore the sexual privacy of every candidate when it is not pernicious (as in pedophilia) is something
I find incredibly invasive and totally wrong. Let the candidatesand
their families work out their private miseries. If they can govern,
that is what counts. This prurient interest seems to come from
the "faithful". Shame on them.

Let's don't give Dubya any ideas. I feel sorry for John Edwards and sorrier for Elizabeth Edwards. And what about the other woman whom he was quick to renounce? There ain't no winners in that situation.
