Sunday Chat with Sue

Last week's letter to Sue got forwarded to Texas and Returned to Sender, Addressee Unknown, so I was concerned about what was going on with her.

Her new mailing address is:

Sue Kenisky
P.O. Box 456
Beaumont, MS 39423
601-753-2950

Here is the news:
This weekend, she's watching the Breaking Bad marathon on AMC. She stayed up late last night thinking they would get to the last season, but they didn't.

Sue has been learning how to do things in order to get through the day in a wheelchair, like transferring herself to the bed without a sliding board, and cooking. Sometimes she gets discouraged or thinks she can't do something, but then she remembers that her goal is to stay out of the nursing home, and she figures out how to do it.

Sue says she wishes someone would bring her a hot cooked meal because there are no takeout places in her area that would deliver.

Her daughter, Zabrina aka Zee, is still living with her boyfriend and she stops by Sue's house every 4 or 5 days, which isn't enough. Sue would love to have her come by every day or so for no longer than 30 minutes, just to lend a hand with small tasks that come up. Sometimes Sue's neighbor across the road comes and helps her out by getting clothes out of the dryer for her, or food out of her deep freezer. Her laundry room is out in her carport, and she can't get out there.

How very awkward to deal with just getting through your day. But when she had the mishap, and went to live with her daughter, I did not think she would make it back to independent living. Are there groups that could look in on her without charging her? Here we have a benevolent organization (Called the Matlacha Hookers, because it began as a social club where women got together and crocheted). The members volunteer to look in on people who need help. Maybe there is something like it in her area. Thanks for posting her new mailing address.

Sue is still feisty and learning how to cope and probably doing better
than any of us could in the same situation. I hope she got her
Christmas package from me.

You should call her so she can ask someone to see if the McLain Post Office has held it for her instead of forwarding it. Zee picks up her mail and tosses it around in the car until she gets around to going to Sue's and Sue feels like some of it probably still is in the car.

I talked to her a week ago when her mail started coming back. Up until then it had been forwarded to Texas and I didn't know it. So she had not been getting her mail at all because no one sent it back to her.

I sent a package to her in McLain, and they held it for her there so she got it, but letters got sent back to Texas. I was picturing those Texas folk eating the popcorn balls I sent her, so I'm glad they went to her.
