Snow is Coming ...

... or is it? We might get 1 - 3 inches of snow tonight, or it might skip us entirely. I would just as soon give it a miss because there is already about 4 inches in the front yard and we can't see where dirt work needs to be done next week. I'll have to direct them from memory.

I've been cold all day, even with layers of clothing on, finally added more layers to see if that will help. It's relatively warm in here - 60 degrees, and I have a fire in the fireplace. There's a space heater in the laundry room, one in the living room, and one in the upstairs hall, located near the vulnerable plumbing. The living room one seems to draw cold air to it, so there is no warm draft for my feet. Despite this, it heats the room up pretty well, so I simply don't sit too near to it.

There is one more old space heater up in the back garage that I might bring down here. It has a funny plug, what's known as a Chinese plug, where the pins are diagonal, so it's probably a 220 volt appliance. My dad made an extension cord for it that converts to a normal grounded plug that can be plugged into a 120 volt household outlet. Mr. TroutBend (and the Internet) say it's safe to use it this way - less heat will come out of it being used at less than the 220 volts, but there will not be harm.

As a backup, I have the hot water heating system for the house, but I'm trying not to use it to save propane for now. I always have home-baked bread ready for the propane delivery man. He used to come right around the first of the month, so I'd bake some rolls just getting ready, and if he didn't show up right away, I'd freeze them so they'd stay fresh. To boost my morale, I'm going to bake something tomorrow, pretending he's coming very soon. I'll give that batch to the guys working on my driveway and make some more for him.

Since Christmas, people in the non-flood areas have been streaming up here to look at the flood damage. There is a continuous string of cars on the highway during daylight hours, and the people who live within sight of the road feels like animals on display in the zoo. Fortunately, I don't live near the highway.

Love your Orlando photos-- that must have been an old section of the town. It's charming. In our Queens apartment some of our heating pipes were clogged and the temp never went above 60 degrees -- I'd get out and about and do my lessons and errands, but if I stayed home, I'd be very likely just to not get out of bed. One day the super came up and discovered the problem and fixed it. After that we had a wonder 71-degrees during the winter. Who knew?

Universal Studios! We were there first thing, so no tourists in sight, except us.
