Snow at Last

We had a few hours worth of snow yesterday, a nice change from the warm, dry weather we've enjoyed the past several weeks.

It's all gone today. I was going to apply Weed and Feed to the lawn at one of the cabins, but when I walked over there, the grass was already dry. Rats! I should have gotten out there yesterday. I may have to wait for next spring to apply it because we are in for another stretch of dry weather.

That yard over there is plagued by burrowing rodents - ground squirrels or voles or something like that. They fling up piles of dirt all over the place, and fresh ones appear on a daily basis. I can't poison them because the fox might eat the carcasses. He goes over there, but either there are so many he can't make much of a dent, or he doesn't like the way they taste. It would be nice if the Weed and Feed would just upset their tummies a little bit so they would seek greener pastures.

You have all those hills and winding roads out there, so snow can be very exciting. And considering that this year you've had that very rare earthquake and a hurricane or two, maybe your winter will be unusual, too.

I miss snow. I have a photo taken out of our apartment window in Queens (we had a long view) and everything is covered with snow. Of course, in a city, the beauty doesn't last past rush hour.

There is something special about having nothing better to do than watch falling snow.

We are in the midst of ten days of 70s and 80s. Sunny days and beautiful blue skies. This is the summer weather that we didn't get during the summer. The leaves are turning yellow and red and falling off. It is fall, after all. I love this weather.

Usually Indian Summer follows a hard freeze, but this year there was only a soft freeze and then a month of the lovely summer-like weather with the pretty fall leaves. Even with that snow the other day, the petunias didn't freeze. But now the bar has been set lower, we are going to flirt with 32 degrees every night and only get up to 60 something during the day, so it's time to tell them goodbye.

Yes, lovely! And there is more to come. Here in Northwest Ohio, the first snow is expected around Thanksgiving. I always get a kick out of the first snow. Our winter is predicted to be very cold and snowy, but right now, temps are in the 80s again. Bizarre for October!

I was looking at a forecast of wildfire probability, and it's down there from Texas to the east, so I guess their dry weather continues. Colorado wasn't shown as high, so I'm hoping that means some decent snow this winter. But, as you say, it's getting a late start.

This is typical for you at this time of the year?

Yes, around now is the time for the first snow, and we usually have snow for Halloween, but it doesn't get serious until after Thanksgiving.

Sun at last!!! We have had a very windy, rainy, nasty weekend--sun just came out!

You're probably going around in shorts and flip-flops, and I'm layering on the clothes. That's okay, vive la difference.
