Snow

I have to go to town tomorrow morning, so thought I'd see if I can get the car out of the garage. There is a big two-foot high snowbank in front of the door created by snow coming off the roof. It's softer at the end of the day, so the idea was to pack it down with the car.

It didn't work out so well because once I got it out, the snow was too slick to drive back into the garage. I had to park it next door and bring the 4-wheel drive truck up to pack it down so it will thaw more tomorrow. I had it perched on the snowbank.

Just now I decided I'd better move that truck back some while the snow's soft. I don't want to find tomorrow's frozen snow bank has trapped the front wheels. Four wheel drive is good, but there needs to be enough room to get a run at challenges just in case.

My two male hummingbirds have visited several times today. I didn't see the wild turkey today. Two of them came through the first time I noticed them, and lately it has been one. I wouldn't blame them if they go in search of a flock to belong to, it must be lonely here. We'll not think of the eaten by coyotes alternative.

Guess you need the snow for the water content! But it probably doesn't do any harm. We get it here this late in spring and it melts and the plants that have had the nerve to sprout usually survive even if it's with a bit of outer leaf damage.

I've got spinach, onions, and peas coming up. I go out and cover the peas and onions on the nights we are supposed to get below freezing.

Snow snow snow! Does it melt semi quickly when the sun comes out?

Much of the time we get warm chinook winds that make the snow disappear quickly. Chinook means 'snow eater.' The highways cleared off quickly because the ground was warm, so while I've still got lots of snow in the yard, once I get out of here, it's as if it never snowed.

The turkey looks very lonely. What does Eloise think about this?

This morning I pried Eloise off the bed and showed her the turkey. She acted like she couldn't see it, totally indifferent. I threw it some popcorn, which it really liked. It went next door, and Eloise was looking over there, but she was watching the rabbit. And then wonder of wonders, the other turkey showed up next door, so I still have two of them. It is possible that one is tamer than the other. One of my flood friends down the canyon likes to think it is her Thomasita who was misplaced by the flood, but that would be a miracle.

I can imagine the good life there. I'd be having a tropical beverage if I was there.
