What the Scanners See

Okay. I wasn't going to discuss the airport scanning issue any more, but ...

Someone is selling '4th Amendment Underwear' imprinted with ink that will be readable on the scanners. One version has the text of the amendment, the other version says 'Read the 4th Amendment Perverts.' You can get them in both adult and kid sizes.

I've always wondered just what those scans really show because when there is a news item about them, we don't get a really good look, and the people they show appear to be in good physical condition.

I didn't realize they can see your actual bones. We really could save hundreds on hospital xrays or if your child swallowed a coin or something like that, you could find out if it's still inside them.

Warning - Adult Content below! That last picture is not for the weak at heart, but it answers a lot of the questions I had.

Personally, I don't feel any outrage at all. My modesty took a hike after
I had my first child.

All this outrage and hoopla seems to have arisen as a result of men worrying about the size of their package. There was nowhere near the fuss several years ago when well-endowed women were complaining about being singled out for enhanced scanning procedures. It only gets escalated when it becomes a man thing.

I would go for the "pat down" ... sounds way more fun

You bet. Lonely? Haven't felt a human touch in a good long time? Book a flight to anywhere. Nudge nudge.

Love the underwear!
comment by crazylife on Nov 30, 2010 8:38 PM ()
The underwear reminds me of people who write their Do Not Resuscitate Order on their torso with a Sharpie so medical personnel can't ignore it, or those folks going into surgery who indicate which arm/leg/finger etc. is the one to be worked on, just so there is no mistake.

Modesty is no more.

Yes, just look at prime-time television. When I was a kid, the only place you could see people in underwear was the Monkey Ward or Sears catalog, now it's a given, nothing left to the imagination, so this airport business is just an extension of that to non-celebrities and ugly people.

It should be interesting in the Summertime. When we have less clothing on.
Can you imagine some of our young ladies with their shorts shorts and getting pat down. They are not going to be too happy.

Too bad we can't fast forward to summer. No, wait, that'd make us half a year older. Let's fast backward to this past summer. I could be visiting with my fox in Colorado again.

I agree with Jon - did you read a post I placed last month or so ago, about 'big brother' having appeared in the uk?
comment by febreze on Nov 30, 2010 3:33 PM ()
I think you all over there have more government closed circuit TV surveillance and those traffic cameras out in the middle of nowhere snapping pictures of alleged speeders! There are a few of those in our large cities, but they are very controversial. Our CCTV is mostly private for security purposes, and then when something happens they give it to the police.

In so many ways, more than we acknowledge.
