After Further Review

Yesterday, Mr. Troutbend sent me this email:

AFTER FURTHER REVIEW...

"Dear Honey,

Shitty is a boy. Neutered of course, or I would’ve noticed sooner. Now I don’t feel so bad about the name. Also I saw the cat that belongs to the lady behind us, similar looking but with a very bushy tail, and I don’t think she lets it out much, if at all. I saw it sitting inside the glass door. So I don’t know if Shit Rat has a home or not."

I told him that makes us look really stupid for not figuring it out sooner, but in our defense, he/she never let us spend much time poking around in the under regions, and there wasn't a big need to know.

About the name, it is taken from the Canadian TV series "Trailer Park Boys." The trailer park manager hated cats and called them shit rats. Mr. Troutbend started calling this cat that name because it used to come look in the patio door and hiss at us. That was before it decided it liked us; now we're all pals. I soften it a little by spelling it Chitty.

I am hoping for the Rockies. After all, he adopted you.

I have no idea how it will work out, and I'm not going to ask what the decision is - I'll wait and be surprised when Mr. YouKnow pulls up on May 18. If Chitty is in that car, we will have learned a whole new big something about Mr. YouKnow.

I like your spelling. If he vacations in the mountains, will he stay inside? He probably doesn't know about the wild, cat-eating critters you have there.

He is going to have to stay inside all night at least, which he isn't used to. This house is hardly big enough for two cats that just barely tolerate each other.

I am trying to work out how Chitty could stay out during the day. We have a cat flap in a back garage where he could run if something was chasing him. Seems like the first few days we would want to stay with him so he doesn't wander off into the great big mountains and get lost or eaten.

Look how disgusted he looks - he knew all along he was a boy, and we're just stupid.

He's adorable!

He's one of those cats that you can give a couple of pats and then he starts wanting to bite - has his own rules. It's hard to imagine loading him in the car for a 700 mile trip, not knowing him all that well.

You could fall back on the French: merde mouchard.

I'll tell him, because every time he writes about that cat, he's given it a new version of the name. Thx!

And by now he has you around his paws!!!!

He sure does. The question of the year is where he is going to spend the summer - baking hot Las Vegas, or the lovely Colorado Rockies.
