The Race for the Raisin Bread

It was a race for the raisin bread here this week and a dark horse won.

Things started rolling last week when the propane guy called and said he'd be up soon, maybe this week. So I baked some rolls to give him, and when he didn't show up last week, I put them in the freezer so they would stay fresh.

The other day I decided to bake raisin bread for my friend Bridget, whose birthday is on St. Patrick's Day.

The recipe made two loaves (that little loaf was a sampler), so I was thinking if the propane guy showed up, it'd be his lucky day because he'd get the fresh raisin bread. But he hasn't come yet, so I decided if my friend Diane showed up first, she'd get the raisin bread and he'd get the frozen rolls. But then, from the back of the pack, this morning the freight delivery guy arrived, and carried away the prize.

I love raisen bread toasted. I might even put some of Fredo's maple syrup
on it.

That's such a good recipe. I always feel like Mrs. Farmer's Wife when I make it.

I'm thinking about baking some more, but more likely that's all that is going to happen - thinking about it. I need to be knitting.

The fox will show up for it if you open the window to let out the aroma!

I've been thinking about that. If I roast meat on the back porch, you can smell it in the front yard. I'm thinking leg of lamb.

Guess you need to fill the freezer....

I've got some rolls in the freezer all ready for when the fox shows up. I'd better start writing names on the bags to keep it all straight.

I can almost smell that bread baking. Yum.

The delivery guy said he could smell it through the bag. This is the second time he's brought freight to us. The truck is too big to come down our driveway, so he backs up to our gate and we transfer the freight to my pickup, and then I have to figure out how to unload it.

I should have made the full recipe - five loaves - and then there'd have been one for you.

I wish I had known of this contest although you are a bit far away..

It was so much fun, I'm going to play it some more this summer. The racers will be the fishermen on the river, the rental guests, Bridget, and Diane. The fun of it is, nobody knows they are even in a race.
