Rabbit Creek

Rabbit Creek was a small tributary feeding into our river by way of a culvert under the yard. About a third of a mile from our house is a distinctive waterfall.

During the flood, its usual 6 inches of water swelled to several feet, overflowed the end of the culvert, and flowed across the yard, doing tremendous amount of damage.

Today I recruited some people who hiked up to the waterfall this past May to accompany me up there to see the flood damage. The change is dramatic.

This particular tree has disappeared without a trace, and it wasn't very close to the water. I have to go back up there sometime and look for where it used to be in case there are any clues.

The waterfall itself looks as good as ever. I feared that big boulders might have come down it and destroyed it.

If anything the waterfall itself is prettier than ever, because all the silt and dead vegetation has been swept away, and the water is crystal clear.

It is beautiful and it already looks as though it is cold.

I went back up there the other day, still looking for things I recognize.
