Old Rocks in the River

image

Boots reminded me about the old days before the floods when we had big rocks along the river where we could get near the water and dangle our feet or do some fishing. This picture was taken in 1954 or so.

The river looks so inviting now, it is hard to imagine the flood.

So sorry your ecology has suffered. What happened to our goose?

When everyone had to leave the canyon for a few weeks after the roads washed out, the people where Quackers lived had to turn all their livestock and chickens and etc. out of their pens so they could forage for themselves until someone could get back to feed them. I haven't asked them specifically about our goose, prefer to think he somehow survived that part of the ordeal and is happily back in a new chicken yard.

What happened to the big rocks?

The force of the flood washed boulders the size of small cars and smaller downstream about 3 miles. During the worst of it I could hear them tumbling under the water, and a couple of times my entire house shook when huge boulders struck the underside of my bridge. The cat looked so surprised. There is one area that I call The Rock Museum because thousands of boulders were left there by the flood for easy viewing.

Did you go swimming in the river--the big city boy wants to know!

We used to back when we were kids, and that summer a few years ago when we had that goose staying with us, we had to go wading with him. We don't like to get that water on us these days because we are downstream from the water treatment facility for a busy tourist town, and I don't believe that the technology is such that it gets out all the chemicals from all those pharmaceuticals people excrete and it goes into the sewers.
